Where the pool goes: questions to ask before we dig
A pool's position never changes. A pool in the shade will be cold, one under pine trees will fill with needles, one far from the house will be used less. It is worth thinking about calmly.

At a glance
The best spot gets sun most of the day, is sheltered from the prevailing wind, has few trees overhead, can be seen from the house, is easy to reach for the excavator and has room for the plant room.
Sun and shade
Watch the garden for a whole day. A spot that gets sun from midday into the afternoon is ideal: it warms the water and warms you when you get out. Shade for loungers can come from a pergola, not from a tree over the water.
Wind and trees
Wind cools the water and brings dust. A wall, a fence or a row of shrubs on the windward side makes a big difference. Deciduous trees and pines close to the pool mean more cleaning and clogged skimmers.
View and privacy
If the plot has a view, the pool usually faces it, and that is where an infinity edge shines. If neighbours look down on you, think about planting, a pergola or a different orientation.
