Questions about prefab pools, with straight answers
What people ask us most often on the phone and at the first visit. If your question is not here, send it on WhatsApp.
The questions
What does “prefab pool” mean?
A permanent, in-ground pool with walls of galvanised steel made in a factory, sealed with a PVC membrane. It is not inflatable or portable. See the walls up close.
Does it last as long as a concrete pool?
The walls never touch the pool water, because the membrane is in between, and galvanising protects them from the soil. The structure lasts for decades. The membrane has a ten-year warranty and usually lives longer.
Do I need a building permit?
For a water surface up to 50 m², a small-scale works approval is usually enough, filed by an engineer. More on the permit page.
How many days will the crew be at my house?
A few weeks, depending on size, ground and equipment. See the process.
Can it be curved or free-form?
The walls give straight lines and right angles. We build rectangular pools, L-shapes and pools with recesses for steps or benches. The membrane is cut to the exact shape.
How deep should it be?
For families we suggest 1.20 to 1.50 m. Shallower for plunge pools and spas. See size and depth.
Will my electricity bill go up a lot?
The main consumer is the pump. With an inverter pump running at low speed most of the time, consumption drops a lot. See inverter pump.
Where does the water for the first fill come from?
From the mains, a borehole or a water tanker. Volume is length × width × average depth: a 7 × 3.5 m pool with an average depth of 1.35 m needs about 33 cubic metres.
Is it emptied in winter?
No. It stays full, with the level lowered, pipes protected and a cover on. In spring comes the opening.
What is the smallest pool you build?
About 3 × 2 m, as a plunge pool. See small pool sizes.
How do I find out the cost?
With a written quote after the visit. We do not give “from” prices. See what drives the cost.
Will a pool fit in a yard with a narrow entrance?
Usually yes. The wall panels go through piece by piece along a passage of about one metre. See the small pool.
