Pool covers: an accessory that pays for itself quickly
A cover does three things: it keeps the heat in, keeps leaves and dust out and, if it is the right kind, protects children. Which one suits you depends on what matters most to you.
White membrane in sunshine: the water turns turquoise
At a glance
A bubble solar cover holds heat and cuts evaporation. A winter cover protects the pool when it is not in use. Motorised rollers and safety covers take weight and prevent falls.
Solar cover
Light, with air bubbles, laid on the water. It is the cheapest way to keep the day's heat for the next morning and to cut the hours of the heat pump. It is not a safety cover.
Winter cover
A strong fabric stretched over the pool and fixed to the edge. It keeps out leaves and light, and so algae. In spring, under a good winter cover, the water is much easier to clean. See spring opening.
Motorised roller
Slats or panels that wind onto a shaft, by button or by hand. It is the most convenient option for daily use, because it opens and closes in a few minutes. It is ideal for rectangular pools.
Safety for children
For families with small children we recommend a cover that takes the weight of a child and locks, or fencing with a self-closing gate. No cover replaces supervision. More in the family pool guide.
