A small pool needs less work than a big one, but it reacts faster. A few cubic metres heat up, cloud and clear more quickly. The secret is small doses, often.
White membrane in sunshine: the water turns turquoise
At a glance
In a small pool chemicals act more strongly and a busy afternoon with friends changes the water noticeably. Test more often, dose less and keep the cover on when the pool is not in use.
Why it changes faster
In 10 cubic metres, two people wearing sunscreen and half an hour of July sun make a bigger difference than in 50. The same goes for warm water in a spa or plunge pool: heat uses up chlorine faster.
Labels usually give a dose per 10 or per 50 cubic metres. Work out your own volume from the pool size and start with half a dose. It is easier to add than to dilute.
Automation for when you are away
A small pH and chlorine doser or a small salt cell keeps the water stable when the house is closed for days. See pool automation.

Questions & answers
Do I change the water more often in a small pool?
Not all of it. You top up what evaporates and what leaves with filter backwashes. A full drain only if a technician suggests it.
Is a robot cleaner worth it in a small pool?
Yes, there are small robots for pools like these. In very small ones a brush and a hand vacuum are enough.
